I love the Coca-Cola brand. What appeals to me is the sheer age of the brand- it has been going for more than 10 years. In that time it has been through its ups and downs but mostly ups and has remained quite consistent. I even have a Coca Cola iPhone cover!

I came across this redesign for the Diet Coke on a recent post in Web Design Ledger and found out that it was designed by Turner Duckworth who have branded some notable entities. You can check out their site to see some more of their work but be prepared its design is a rather irritating Flash thingy. Here are the pics, enjoy:

It is fascinating to see which objects are abandoned by their previous owners and one has to wonder at the stories behind these tableaux.

Furthermore, from an African context, I am amazed to see so much debris of past lives left unused and untouched. Here, we would have reused everything from the beautiful chandeliers still hanging in their hall to the many books strewn on the floor of the forlorn library.

Many customers come to The Digital Vineyard to get a website designed and developed. More often than not, this website is for informational purposes or to get a web presence up. One of our services is to set up web analytics which generates a monthly report that is sent to our clients informing them of how well their site is doing. The analytics report often shows that they are not getting many visits to their site. The reason for this is because the content on their site is static. The content that was put there in the beginning is the same content that is on there a year ago. A limited amount of content gives limited relevance to web users searching the web with tools like Google.

An example of Google Analytics statistics

Websites do not magically draw traffic to themselves. If you want your site to be more than an information portal and rather be a powerful marketing tool, you need to do two things. The first is to get more dynamic (and relevant) content on your site. One way to do this is to start a blog. You can blog about what it is you know best- your business or service. This not only adds new content with relevant words that Google can pick up in its trawling of the web, it also sets you up as an expert in your field. If you give sound advice about what you do, chances are that someone who reads it might be giving you a call to pay you for your expertise.

Secondly, you need to build up an online community. A blog is part of this online community as it is a place where people who like to read what you have to say can comment on your blog posts and in return, you can interact with them. It is this interaction that builds community. Your blog is not the only place to build a community. The Digital Vineyard also uses social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter top connect with our community. We regularly post updates on what we’ve been up to, posts on designs we have been looking at and admiring and links to thinks we might think our followers would be interested in. In particular, our page on Facebook gives us a chance to react on comments left by our fans- invaluable interaction.

Not only does this networking enable you to interact with your followers, it also helps to drive visitors back to your site. And if that site is well designed and informative, you should be getting more phone calls.

Let us know how your efforts go and if you learn any nifty tricks that we can share with TDV readers out there.
